History

The Graduate Program in Geochemistry: Oil and Environment (Pospetro), of the Geosciences Institute of UFBA (IGEO/UFBA), was born from the need for critical mass formation and the deepening of knowledge to assist in the integrated resolution of problems involving issues related to oil and the environment.

Pospetro started its activities with the Master's level in 2009, after having its proposal approved by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES). In February 2015, the Doctorate level was approved, with the first students selected for this level who entered in March of that same year.

The Program, level 4 in CAPES according to evaluation 2013-2017, has as concentration area "Geochemistry of Petroleum and Environmental" and includes two lines of research: i) remediation of areas impacted by oil and ii) geochemistry and evaluation of ecosystems.

Since its inception, Pospetro has been an important research development hub covering the themes of the environment and oil. The course is intended for the training of professionals with scientific knowledge differentiated by their excellence, which has facilitated the insertion of graduates in the specialized labor market, especially in academia and in companies that develop work related to the developed themes.

The recognition of the quality of pospetro's teaching and scientific and technological investigations has enabled this Program to enter into important partnerships with national and international research companies and institutions, which are assisting in the consolidation of the Center of Excellence in Petroleum Geochemistry of IGEO/UFBA.
